ANVC CONNECT AUGUST 13

ANVC has pioneered many firsts for interdisciplinary clinicians, including the launch of the Neurovascular Registered Nurse (NVRN™) certification in 2011 which remains the first and only acute stroke board certification examination for registered nurses in the world, and in 2013 launching of the first and only stroke advanced practice board examination in existence, the Advanced Neurovascular Practitioner (ANVP™). As the first professional practice organization for interdisciplinary stroke providers, ANVC is now enlarging its educational and credentialing scope this year to include launch of yet another first, the Advanced Stroke Coordinator (ASC™) board certification.

Leadership requires a pioneering spirit to forge new pathways to the future, and ANVC is directed by a dynamic Vision that is moving us towards a remarkable destiny for stroke clinicians. The new ASC™ certification emerged from our Strategic Plan which is based on the ANVC Mission Statement:

As the number one cause of preventable adult disability, neurovascular disease demands excellence in clinical services to reduce disability and death. Stroke clinicians depend on ANVC to empower them with knowledge and skills, because our patients deserve nothing less.

The complexity of today’s stroke systems demands ASC™ board certified clinicians capable of designing, implementing and leading program improvement across all stroke disciplines. The Random House Dictionary defines pioneers as “one of those who are first or earliest in any field of inquiry or enterprise” and our ASC™ board certified clinicians will be pioneering a new generation of stroke coordination.

ANVC’s Vision and Mission statements will continue to challenge us in the months ahead to develop new products and services that position our members to provide evidence-empowered stroke services. I hope our Mission statement is as energizing to you as it is to all of us, and I encourage you to become active in ANVC to help us to go “where no stroke clinician has gone before” in our pursuit of excellence.
