Kim and colleagues recently published a paper evaluating the effect of an infusion of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger combined with N-acetylcysteine and selenium on perihematomal edema (PHE) in 123 patients with intracranial hemorrhage. There was a significant reduction in PHE as well as a reduced ICU length of stay. The authors concede that early and higher doses of the ROS combined with the other medications may have contributed to the outcome.
