#becausestrokepatientsdeservenothingless – And neither do you!
This is why we created the Members Only ANVC Discussion Forum as a way to network with other members and share strategies or information that benefit our practice and ultimately, our patients. Hot topics include the following: SVO vs LVO differentiation for EMS, Code stroke or not, obtaining weights for weight-based medications like alteplase, IR tech education, consistency in mRS documentation, and many other topics. News to Use
Endovascular Therapy for Stroke due to Basilar Artery Occlusion
Langezaal and colleagues1 enrolled 300 patients to compare outcomes in patients who receive endovascular therapy versus standard medical therapy in patients with basilar artery occlusion. Almost 80% of patients in both groups received IV thrombolytic therapy. Investigators found no significant difference in favorable functional outcomes (defined as mRS < 3) between the groups; however, the endovascular group had a 4.5% symptomatic ICH rate versus 0.7% in the medical therapy group. The authors recommended further study with a larger group of enrolled patients to detect significant differences. This may be a challenge given the small percentage of ischemic strokes caused by basilar artery occlusion. Click HERE to read more.

Advanced Practice Clinicians – Neurology’s Underused Resource
Cook and Schwartz2 wrote a provocative viewpoint regarding the current shortage of neurology physicians and increasing use of advanced practice providers to fill the gap. There are currently 3 posted opinions from physicians, but the most important point in those comments for advanced practice providers is the training and competency testing to demonstrate mastery of knowledge in a subject. This is the mission of ANVC – to create evidence-empowered clinician experts in stroke care. Click HERE to read more.
